Happy Fall Y'all!

We have had such a busy and productive start to our school year, it is hard to believe that October is already here!  This month will be no exception.

In the classroom, we are continuing to develop good reading strategies.  Currently we are working on determining fantasy vs. realism, describing the parts of a story, and sequencing events to help to retell a story.  As writers, students are learning the Traits of Good Writing, specifically Ideas, Organization, and Convetions.  They have practiced writing strong "hamburger" paragraphs and are now expanding their skills to write multiple paragraph essays!  Our next essay will be a research project on spiders!  In addtion, we have begun a new unit in math on data collection and graphing.  Students will be practicing collecting data, interpreting data and organizing it in various ways.  We also started a new unit in science on Water.  In this unit students will discover the unique properties of water, such a surface tension, freezing and heating, and the way water moves.
