An Author is Coming!!! An Author is Coming!!!
Gordon Korman, author of over 40 books for children and young adults, is coming to OBL in May. He will formally visit with all 4th and 5th grade students at the school. He will talk about his writing process and the world of publishing. Korman's forte is HUMOR! His books are fast-paced and funny. Some of the most popular titles are "No More Dead Dogs," "Schooled," "The 6th Grade Nickname Game," and "Liar, Liar Pants of Fire." He also has several series of adventure books such as the "On the Run" series, "Kidnapped," "Dive," and "Everest." Whatever your interests, Korman is sure to please!
Everyone is welcome to hear Korman speak on Tuesday, May 13th at Waters Middle School. He will be signing books before and after his talk. Books are available to order through the school at a discounted price. Look for more information coming home soon!
We would like to thank the follow restaurants for participating in our fundraiser night on Thursday, Feb. 26th. We raised over $2,000 to put toward the visit cost! Thank you so much!

New and Exciting News:We have a new online catalog. Destiny is web-based which means you now have access to not only the OBL catalog, but every school in the district! The catalog will tell you where books are located, whether they are available or not, and now even has AR quiz information for all titles. Click on the link to the left to check it out!
Lit Circle Crazy! Once again 3rd - 5th grade classes (and this year we are even adding a 2nd grade class) will be participating in literature circles. This is a great way to get students to really think about what they've read and employ higher level reading strategies for comprehension. Connect, predict, infer, question, and observe- then discuss your thoughts and feelings!
Children's Choices- We are continuing the project for a second and last year. Books leveled K-2, 3-4, and 5-6 are nominated by publishers for this nationally recognized award. Students will have baskets of these books in their classrooms and they will read and vote for their favorites. We are one of only five teams in the whole country who participate in the project. And, this is the only award chosen just by students! Make your voice be heard... read and vote! Last year's winners can be found in the latest issue of
The Reading Teacher. The article includes a short annotation of each book.
It will be a very exciting year in the OBL library. Stop in and visit anytime!
