You ARE an American Pioneer
Time to pack up and head west! 3rd graders are becoming pioneers!
The American Revolution: It's All About Perspective
How do we really know about the past? Using primary and secondary resources about the American Revolution students, in pairs, will research someone who played an important role in the war. Each student will write their person's "Life Notice" (obituary) from either the American or British perspective.
Martin Luther King Writing Contest 5th Grade

The Greatest Invention of All Time!
If you had to select one invention to be named the Greatest of All Time, what would you chose and why? That is exactly what 4th graders have to do!
The Rock and Gem Hall of Fame Project
3rd grade classes will be researching various rocks, gems, minerals and metals. Each student will write a letter to the Rock and Gem Hall of Fame to persuade the board members to induct their material into the Hall of Fame. Students will have to explain the uses of their material in every day life and how the properties of their material affect those uses. Be convincing!

After the letters have been written, we will have a Rock and Gem Hall of Fame museum where students will display a model of their material.
What in the World?
What if you had to move to a new country???? Would you know how to act? Would you know what was acceptable and unacceptable behavior in that culture? Ms. Howton and Mrs. Britt's students are learning about cultures from all over the world.
4th Grade Delaware Day Project
Last year, Mr. Trotto's 4th grade class participated in this statewide competition and WON! This year, the students are being asked to really think about the Constitution and Delaware's role in forming our nation.
What is Your Style? Be an Author!
Do you have a favorite author? Do you know WHY they are your favorite? Maybe it is because they write about animals and you LOVE animals or maybe it is their word choice and they just make their books come alive or maybe they are funny and you like humor...whatever the reason, it is important to understand an author's style and why they write like they do so you can figure out what kind of reader YOU are.
Animals in Danger
There are currently over 1,100 animals on the world's endangered species list. What is happening to these animals? How have humans impacted the survival of these species? Students will research an endangered animal and the changes to it's ecosystem to determine what can be done to secure their future.
Geometry is Everywhere!
Ms. Davis' fourth graders are learning about geometric shapes to understand their properties. Through research, students will be able to describe, classify and analyze the attributes of the geometric shape. Using the information they discover, students will then create a riddle book for other students to learn from. They will communicate their information through writing and illustrations. The completed book will be submitted to Scholastic's "Kids Are Authors" contest.
