Olive B. Loss Elementary School, located in the Appoquinimink School District, experienced a very exciting and successful first year in September, 2002.
Our school is a community school that provides a safe and nurturing environment for all students. The OBL staff recognizes the role our community contributes in educating our students. Hence, our educational programs provide numerous opportunities for parent and community volunteers to work in our school. We work together with parents to insure that our school is an inviting, orderly and exciting place in which to learn.
A continuum of services, ranging from talent clusters to inclusion classes, is available to meet our students' needs. Our curriculum is designed with an emphasis on developing critical thinking and problem solving skills. Written and verbal communication skills are practiced daily. Art, music and physical education are components of our curriculum that promote a broader understanding of the world. The library at Olive B. Loss is the literary hub of our school - open five days a week to serve students and staff during the school year, and part time during the summer.
The technology lab, along with individual classroom computers, provides children with the opportunity to enhance their computer skills. Student achievement and perfect attendance are recognized regularly. Discipline is viewed as a shared responsibility involving students, teachers, parents and the principal.
